INDIGENOUS FRUITS & VEGETABLES

Indigenous fruits and vegetables are not only often drought tolerant and able to grow on marginal lands but, in many cases, more nutritious. Together with The Siyazisiza Trust, Community Farmer Network has been promoting the cultivation of indigenous crops to its small-scale farmers as an effective climate resilience adaptation strategy. By undertaking value-adding and securing markets, Community Farmer Network is making the cultivation of indigenous crops an increasingly viable option for small-scale farmers.

FRESH HERBS

As valuable companion plants and effective components in an integrated pest management strategy, Community Farmer Network has been promoting the cultivation of a range of herbs to its small-scale farmers. These herbs are then harvested and then sold, dried or fresh, direct to customers from its Farm Store at the Zululand Agri-Support Centre in Mtunzini.
